Chris Leeper’s Painting Gets a New Home

Phyllis_Leeper

As Phyllis Rench was walking by the Lit Youngstown booth at the Summer Festival of the Arts, she spotted Chris Leeper’s oil painting Silver Bridge and loved it. Now it’s at home in her historic Canfield home.

Thank you to Chris for offering this gorgeous painting for our collaborative raffle. We have split the $1300 purse with Chris–important to us that we’re not asking artists to give us their work for free–and we will take our share of the proceeds to develop literary arts programming in Youngstown.

A big thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and came by for a visit, to our booth volunteers, and to Lori Factor and the Summer Festival of the Arts for such a fun weekend. We folded stories by Jeff Murphy and Molly Fuller into Storygami! We displayed our progress on Phenomenal Women: Youngstown Stories project, gathering stories of older African American women in Youngstown. We hosted a reading of stories and essays, and a performance of dramatic monologues from the Strand Project.
