Uplifting Sober Voices (Oct 21 YouTube Live)

Uplifting Voices is an ongoing series of online readings that lift the voices of writers in marginalized communities. Readings featured in this series have celebrated the work of Palestinian, Jewish and Black Women writers. During these readings, writers share their work and engage in thoughtful conversation with one another about writing, community and much more. Darren C. Demaree is the author of twenty-four full-length poetry collections, most recently Now Flourish Northern Cardinal (Small Harbor Publishing, November 2025). He is the recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, the Louise Bogan Award from Trio House Press, and the Nancy Dew Taylor Award from Emrys Journal.

Nick Rees Gardner is a teacher, a critic, a wine and beer monger, and the author of the linked story collection, Delinquents And Other Escape Attempts. He owns a boutique wine and beer store outside of Washington, DC, but his fiction is often about his hometown of Mansfield, Ohio.

Charles Kell is the author of Ishmael Mask (Autumn House Press, 2023). His first collection, Cage of Lit Glass, (Autumn House Press, 2019) was chosen by Kimiko Hahn for the 2018 Autumn House Press Poetry Prize.
