Poetry Ohio Comes to WYSU

Beginning in October, a twice monthly feature of Ohio poets and their work will be aired on 88.5 WYSU. The show, Poetry Ohio, is a collaboration between Lit Youngstown and WYSU hosted by Kate Caraballo. The five minute slot will feature the work of Ohio affiliated poets, including many who have shared their work at Lit Youngstown’s First Wednesday Reader Series, Fall Literary Festival or Winter Writing Camp. The show can be heard on the first and third Sunday of each month at 2pm before A Way With Words on 88.5 WYSU.
Listeners can expect, “a brief immersion into locally written poetry, including an introduction of the month's poet, a commentary on their poem, and the poem itself. Some episodes may feature multiple poems or a secondary reading of the same poem” says host Kate Caraballo. Caraballo hopes that placing poetry in an “unexpected place” will give listeners an opportunity to enjoy something they would not have otherwise thought to explore.
Kate Caraballo (née Weaver) is a poet, editor, and mother of two. Her work has been published by Agora, The Carroll Review, Poetic Sun, The Words Faire, and Boudin. In 2022, Kate earned her M.A. in English with a focus in contemporary poetry at John Carroll University. She has been editing poetry professionally for ten years, taught at the collegiate level for three, and now officially serves as a contributing poetry editor for Chestnut Review.
