Esteemed Marys to Read June 1

We are thrilled to welcome two esteemed poets, Mary Biddinger and Mary Quade, to our First Wednesday Reading Series June 1, 7 PM at Suzies Dogs and Drafts downtown. An open mic will follow.

Mary Biddinger is the author of four full-length collections of poetry, most recently Small Enterprise (Black Lawrence Press, 2015). Her work has appeared in Denver Quarterly, Green Mountains Review, jubilat, The Laurel Review, and Pleiades, among others. She is a Professor of English at the University of Akron, where she teaches poetry writing and literature, and edits the Akron Series in Poetry at the University of Akron Press. She is the recipient of a 2015 National Endowment for the Arts creative writing fellowship in poetry, and is currently working on a book-length volume of prose poems.

Mary Quade is the author of the poetry collections Guide to Native Beasts (Cleveland State University Poetry Center) and Local Extinctions (Gold Wake). She has received three Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards. Her poetry and essays have appeared in many journals and in the new anthologies New Poetry from the Midwest 2014 (New American), From Curlers to Chainsaws: Women and Their Machines (Michigan State University); and Creating Nonfiction: Twenty Essays and Interviews with Writers (SUNY). Her essay “Hatch” was chosen as a Notable Essay for Best American Essays 2013. She teaches creative writing at Hiram College.
